How to name your startup:
Coming up with a name can be a time consuming process.
If you manage to go through a few names on Techcrunch, like The Name Inspector did you will find a few patterns:
- Real Words: Amazon, Apple, Sphere
- Compounds: CircleSource, Firefox, Wordpress
- Phrases: StartaStarUp, AllofMP3, MyBlogLog, StumbleUpon
- Blends: Microsoft (microcomputer + software), Technorati (technology + literati), Wikipedia (wiki + encyclopedia)
- Tweaked words: ebay, edgeio, iPhone
- Affixed words: CoComment, Findory, Napster
- Made up or obscure origin: Bebo, Meebo, Odeo
- Puns: Farecast (forecast, fore –> fare), Farecast (forecast, fore –> fare)
- People’s names: Orkut, Ziya, Ning
- Initials and Acronyms: AOL, ATT, GM
Hope this helps.

I noticed that a lot of Web 2.0 company logos are also very bright with lots of colorful greens, blues and oranges. This appears to be a trend of Web 2.0 companies and it is probably a way of making the site overall more appealing to non-Internet users. Old internet sites looked very gray and ‘blocky’, and perhaps intimidating for less experienced users. I’ve noticed that Web 2.0 aims to attract the masses with colorful and cheerful design.
